Btown Disc Golf Club Email List
In the Fall of 2008 when Burlington residents were just beginning to find out and ask questions about the disc golf course plans for Leddy Park, the Btown Disc Golf Club were already well organized and able to marshal their members (many of whom are not even Burlington residents) to write letters and attend meetings to show support for their proposed disc golf course. They did this very effectively, in part, using their club email list. The club was successful in creating the the impression in early public forums, that there was greater public support for the proposal than was actually the case. The reality was that most Burlington residents were not even aware of the project yet.
Below is an example letter to members asking them to attend the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on Sept 23.
Hey everyone,
We just received word from Parks & Rec. that the Commission meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept 23) will likely be heavily attended by the opposition, and that they plan to bring forth a proposal that would kill the Leddy Park disc golf course forever.
WE NEED YOU to come to the meeting tomorrow and voice your support for the course. The public forum portion of the meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at the Burlington Police Station Community Room (1 North Ave).
Please show up as early as you can, make sure you dress appropriately, and bring a positive attitude. We want to be sure we are making positive comments in support of the course, and try to limit the direct argument with those who oppose the course.
Please pass this information to as many folks as you can, and be sure to bring at least one friend with you to the meeting.
Thanks, and we hope to see everyone there.
